2 ACCUSED OF ATTACKING REAL ESTATE AGENT

By Sarah Colburn

EDEN LAKE TOWNSHIP — Police in and out of Minnesota are looking for two people accused of luring a real estate agent into a house, assaulting her and trying to handcuff her.

John Joseph Novicky, 52, and his sister-in-law, Mary Josephine Still, 20, are wanted on potential charges of kidnapping, second degree assault and terroristic threats.

Novicky's wife of three years is pleading for the couple to come clean.

"That's all I want is for both of them to turn themselves in. I know it's going to cost them, but I would rather nobody else get hurt," Margaret Novicky said.

She's heard from them three or four times and in one call her husband, who suffers from depression, threatened to commit suicide. Still was staying at the Novicky's home.

Saturday, John Novicky and Still posed as a married couple and went to a Cold Spring open house staged by Roxanne Forstner with Counselor Realty of St. Cloud. Sunday, they called Forstner and toured homes.

According to the complaint, the 10-minute assault happened after Forstner agreed to walk through Novicky's house at 22098 Deep Lake Road to determine what it might be worth.

In the basement, Still pointed a gun at Forstner and told her to do as she was told. Forstner grabbed the gun and Novicky put a handcuff on her, the complaint said. The three struggled and Forstner lost control of the gun, but escaped from the house leaving behind her shoes, cellular telephone and jewelry.

At about 7 p.m., Mike Haag and his family were at the dinner table talking when they heard "hollering" outside their home on Deep Lake.

He initially thought the calls were for a pet or a child, soon realizing the woman was in trouble.

"She was almost hysterical, she was really shook up, her hair was kind of a mess and her face was red," Haag said.

He called the police.

Novicky's background includes previous convictions for kidnapping, terroristic threats, escape from custody, theft and forgery, according to the Stearns County Sheriff's Department.

"It makes you a little uneasy," Haag said. "(I) just double check all the doors, make sure everything is locked."

Using a search warrant for Novicky's house, police found a handcuff, a gold bracelet, a ring, a black and silver semiautomatic air gun, as well as Forstner's shoes and telephone.

Anyone who sees the couple should call 911 immediately. The couple was last seen driving a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, a tan four-door with license plate CDA176.

UPDATE: It is believed that these criminals were apprehended.  For further information please contact the Saint Cloud times.
