Some of NASREAs functions are as followed.
- To keep every member of NASREA up to date, informed and educated on safety issues and concerns in the Real Estate industry.
- To create a national ad campaign to inform and encourage consumers (buyers/sellers), agents and brokers to only work with an official NASREA safe office.
- To set standards and practices which include ensuring that every member is getting proper identification from their clients.
- To ensure that every agent/broker who enters a property has some form of protection in hand ready to use if needed.
To receive NASREA'S official safe office seal of approval the Real Estate office and or local associations must adhere to ALL of NASREA's guidelines set forth by the Association.
NASREA's guidelines are as followed 1.Each office and or local association approved as a safe office must have at minimum the following personal protection and security devices:
- Every working lockbox must contain a safety device that the agent can hold in their hand as they show a vacant or empty property. This is so when an agent goes to a listing that has a lockbox, there will be a security
protection piece there as they enter the dwelling. Currently this is the best form of protection because the protection unit is in the agents hand at the time of entry leaving no need to look or seek out a
protection piece in ones' purse or pocket.
- These lockboxes must be maintained and checked for proper operation as required by the manufacturer.
- Each agent must be trained and educated on how to properly and effectively use the means of safety in the lockbox.
- Each agent in the office should also carry some form of personal protection on them at all times; this is not mandatory but it is suggested for added safety and security.
- Each office must have personal protection pieces in the office for listing that do not have lockboxes. The keys to the listing must attach to the protection unit so to be readily available when the agent/broker enters
a property. The number of units will vary depending on the number of agents and listings in that office. At minimum there should be a protection unit for every listing key and 10% more on hand for new upcoming
listings. Each agent must be trained and educated on how to properly and effectively use these units. Also, these units must be tested and checked for proper operation as required by the manufacturer.
2.Each office approved as a safe office must have and use personal identification forms. This is currently the law in a few states and NASREA is also working to make it law in the remaining states.
- Personal Identification Form:
Know who you are doing business with! Offices across
the nation are now asking for photo identification and information from clients before going to view property. The form is quick and easy to fill out and asks for name, address, employer and automobile information.
Not only does this procedure identify the person you are working with; it helps qualify a prospect and aids police if something happens to you. We have found that customers are very understanding regarding why we need
this information and there has been little or no resistance to providing the identification. If a customer does object, that in itself, should raise a red flag.
3. Training and news distribution
- Each office and or local association approved as a safe office will receive at regular intervals new information, articles, news or training. This will be sent to the head of the office/association to be distributed to
their members in a timely manor.
NASREA Member Benefits
